I have to say I was looking for excuses not to like this – I actually have no desire to become a person who uses an exercise bike or rower. BUT it really is rather good and such an easy way of getting a bit of exercise. It is fine to assemble – but possibly best with two people to share the “fun”, and completely straightforward to use. Conversion of rower from bike is beyond simple. Only problem is if you have the bike facing the TV, the rower will face away from it, and turning it round is no mean feat – it is quite heavy (as all these things are, of course). I’m only not giving 5 stars because I resent liking it, and the seat sometimes squeaks!

[UPDATE a year or so on] Still a great bit of kit. It has had some serious use, and though the pulse monitor has given up the ghost, on all other fronts it is still doing very well indeed. The seat stopped squeaking after a while, by the way! Only possible negative is that the seat is not the most comfortable in the world for longer rides (dead backside after 30 mins). But you can deal with that with a gel seat cover.

I received this item a few months ago. Delivery and service were good. The cycle rower is relatively easy to set up, but had a couple of small problems with pedal straps and centre post insert. However the York “person” was very helpful and replaced these within a couple of days. I use the Cycle and Rower and find them both very good. The Computer is helpful, showing speed,distance,time and calories.

However the heart rate monitoring part is so erratic it could be dangerous. I think York would be better off not including this as part of the equipment. My wife and I both use the cycle and both find the same problem. We have tried all sorts of different holds and used “gel” ( the connections are on the handlebars) but still get the same useless readings. When I asked York for help/advice I was told that “it doesn’t work for everybody”. In that case should they be selling this as a feature? They do have a “telemetry” option (heart rate transmission belt wirelessly connected to the computer) at extra cost. I was told this is out of stock and would be so for at least 6 weeks, with no lead time as to when it would be available. So I have bought a different heart rate monitor which works very well.

So to sum up the equipment is very good and does what I hoped for, with the exception of the heart rate monitoring. Perhaps York should consider including the “telemetry” option as standard.

i ordered on wednesday night and it arrived friday morning.took 2 of us about half hour to put together,with no probs!it is a very sturdy piece of kit and very smooth and quietish(just a slight drone from the belt on the flywheel),but can easily still hear the tv.

i used it for about 10 mins and i am very impressed,no jarring on your joints and i would say probably the best exercise equipment i have used(and i have had a few)

i really like the fact it has adjustable handle height as i am only 5ft 1,and i can use it very comfortably.

looking forward to using properly tomorrow.i defo recommend this,well worth the money,

Seems quite substantial to start, but even with limited use the friction belt has worn through and I’ve no idea how to buy another or to physically replace it (as the lower end of the friction belt is inside the pedal casings). Not happy that it hasn’t lasted long.

Polar CS200 Health Monitor Reviews

The CS200 has been designed with the needs of the cyclist in mind. It has a very clear display that can show a mixture of current speed, elapsed time and average speed according to preference. It uses the comfortable Polar Wearlink chest strap that senses surface ECG and transmits this to the monitor for continuous HR analysis. The CS200 comes with a wireless speed sensor that connects to the front wheel. There is also an optional wireless sensor for the pedals that detects cadence. In my experience over the past year, both have proven very reliable. The CS200 includes settings for two bikes so I can use it, (with a second set of sensors) on both my race and mountain bike as it remembers which size wheels each bicycle has. It certainly makes me feel very satisfied to know how long I have been in the “zone” and helps me push hard without overtraining.

I can recommend this computer to anyone who owns a bicycle. However, it is particular useful for those who attend gyms with Polar compatible equipment as the Wearlink belt alone costs around £35
